Marc Baumann joins Dfns as Chief Growth Officer
Marc brings more than a decade of experience building and scaling digital asset businesses at the intersection of blockchain, regulated finance, growth, and enterprise adoption. He has built and scaled some of the most respected organizations in digital assets, and is known for translating complex technical innovation into clear strategy and business impact. Beyond his operational work, Marc is a leading voice in fintech and digital assets. He has been consistently ranked among the Top 10 Fintech voices globally and is the founder of 51, a digital asset research, media and market intelligence platform reaching more than 100,000 business leaders and investors worldwide.
Scaling Bitcoin Suisse into a European market leader
Marc is best known for his role at Bitcoin Suisse, which he joined at an early stage and helped scale into one of the world’s leading crypto financial services and custody providers. As Head of Marketing, Communications, and Public Affairs, Marc was instrumental in defining the firm’s growth strategy, brand, and institutional positioning at a critical moment for both the company and the broader Swiss crypto ecosystem.
During this period, Bitcoin Suisse grew to more than 300 employees across Zug, Copenhagen, Liechtenstein, and Abu Dhabi, and secured major strategic partnerships. In parallel, Marc also worked closely with executive leadership on strategy, business development, long-term positioning and raising a $45M series A as the firm expanded its international footprint.
Founder and CEO of 51
In 2022, Marc founded 51, a research and market intelligence firm focused on digital assets. Today, 51 reaches more than 100,000 B2B readers, including founders, executives, investors, and operators across crypto, fintech, and enterprise technology.
51 is known for clear, rigorous research that helps companies and investors understand how digital assets are evolving, and what to do about it. Its work has become a trusted reference for decision-makers on topics such as blockchain infrastructure, tokenization, stablecoins, and enterprise adoption. The firm has worked with over 25 clients (including CoinDesk, Ava Labs, MoonPay, FGNX, Magic, and NEAR) and published hundreds of research reports that shape how organizations think about blockchain and digital asset strategy.
Through 51, Marc has commercialized frontier technology by defining market positioning, shaping executive-level narratives, and deploying growth & GTM strategies that move complex products from innovation to enterprise adoption.
Why Marc and why now
Dfns is entering a new phase of growth as digital assets become mainstream in regulated finance. Institutions now care less about experimentation and more about security, clarity, and long-term partners they can trust.
Marc Baumann is a strong fit for this moment. He brings deep experience in both crypto and regulated finance, sharp go-to-market instincts, and a credibility-first approach rooted in technical understanding. As Chief Growth Officer, Marc will lead Dfns’ growth strategy across marketing, partnerships, positioning, and go-to-market. He will work closely with product and engineering to ensure our market story matches what we actually build: secure, API-first wallet infrastructure for serious financial use cases.
His work will focus on four areas:
- Scaling go-to-market: moving from founder-led growth to repeatable sales motions for developers, fintechs, asset managers, banks, and other regulated institutions.
- Product positioning: clearly explaining where Dfns fits in the digital finance stack and making complex technology easy to understand for enterprises.
- Partnerships and ecosystem: building strong relationships across blockchains, payments, trading, banks, and industry groups so Dfns becomes core infrastructure.
- Modern growth systems: investing in data-driven marketing, developer-focused growth, thought leadership, and a clearer, more recognizable Dfns brand.
Overall, Marc’s role is to help Dfns move from startup to scaleup while keeping tight alignment between what we build and how we talk about it. His appointment reflects Dfns’ ambition to set the standard for institutional wallet infrastructure. As the industry matures, trust, reliability, and consistent execution are becoming the real drivers of growth.
We’re excited to welcome Marc to the team and build the next chapter of Dfns together.
