Canton has now completed the full integration journey as a Tier-1 blockchain on Dfns

We’re proud to announce that Canton is now fully integrated into the Dfns Wallet-as-a-Service platform as a Tier-1 blockchain. This new Tier-1 integration expands the capabilities of Dfns wallets to support real-time transaction indexing, asset detection, and webhook automation for Canton coin.

Developed by Digital Asset and governed by a growing ecosystem of top financial institutions and world-known technology providers, Canton is the only public L1 with institutional-grade privacy designed for regulated finance. It delivers privacy and control without compromising on interoperability.

What is the Canton Network?

Canton is a privacy-enabled “network of networks” connecting interoperable permissioned blockchains via smart contracts, designed to meet institutional requirements for confidentiality, control, and compliance. Today, Canton has evolved into a decentralized public network that connects financial applications, tokenized assets, and payment systems in a synchronized and privacy-preserving environment.

Unlike traditional public blockchains, Canton is designed for:

  • Privacy: Configurable, granular privacy on a need-to-know basis such that participants only see what they are entitled to see
  • Compliance: Institutions can define who sees what, who transacts, and how assets are held aligning with regulatory expectations.
  • Coordination: Canton connects interoperable permissioned blockchains without duplicating state, enabling consistent interactions across networks with unified governance.
  • Finality: Where public chains offer probabilistic settlement, Canton provides deterministic finality, a requirement for financial workflows.

Canton leverages Daml (Digital Asset Modeling Language), an open-source smart contract language purpose-built for finance, allowing institutions to define and enforce custom business logic, asset rules, and access policies, while interoperating across chains in a synchronized and auditable manner. Backed by firms like Goldman Sachs, HSBC, Broadridge, DRW, and many others, Canton is emerging as a foundational layer for institutional tokenization, payments, and onchain financial infrastructure.

Dfns unlocks Tier-1 support for Canton

We had already brought Canton to Tier 2 support in February, as well as enabled Bring Your Own Validator earlier in May. But with Tier-1 support now live, Dfns offers full wallet functionality on Canton:

  • Automatic token detection on Canton: Wallets instantly show the current balance of Canton’s native token for a smoother user experience and easier reconciliation.
  • Onchain transaction history: All incoming and outgoing transfers are indexed in real time to support clear reporting and audit trails.
  • Secure transaction handling: Create signatures, send transfers, and broadcast transactions through one API or directly from the Dfns Dashboard.
  • Real-time webhook alerts: Get notified about balance changes, transfers, or transaction statuses to trigger workflows or in-app messages.

This makes it easier than ever for financial institutions to manage Canton Coin — the native asset of the Canton Network — with full support for transaction indexing, secure signing, and webhook automation.

Support for tokenized assets via CIP56, Canton’s equivalent to ERC-20 is planned for a later release, unlocking full custody, tokenization, and treasury use cases on Canton.

As the first and only wallet infrastructure provider to offer Tier-1 support for Canton, Dfns continues to deliver on its mission: bridging real-world finance with secure, programmable digital asset infrastructure.

Bring your own validator (BYOV)

Dfns also supports Bring Your Own Validator (BYOV) on Canton allowing institutions to operate with their own party hints, fees, and infrastructure. This gives you full control over wallet namespaces, validator credentials, and fee sponsorship, all while staying fully integrated with the Dfns API. We wrote this article to walk you through how it works and how to get started.
